The National Lifeguard Instructor course provides candidates
with an understanding of the principles and practices on which the
National Lifeguard program is based. The course explores teaching
approaches and techniques appropriate for National Lifeguard
candidates.
After successful completion of the course, National Lifeguard
Instructors are certified to teach the National Lifeguard course in
the option(s) they hold (i.e., National Lifeguard Instructors who
hold National Lifeguard Pool may teach National Lifeguard Pool,
etc).
Prerequisites:
National Lifeguard (any option) and
Lifesaving
Instructor certifications (need not be current).
Instruction & certification: Current
National Lifeguard Instructor Trainers teach and certify National
Lifeguard Instructors. The Lifesaving Society deems its
certifications to be "current" for 24 months from the certification
date.
National Lifeguard Instructor course: 16 hr.
classroom and water time. This checklist identifies the learning outcomes
that you must achieve in order to be successful on the course.

Costs: In addition to the required reference
materials, a certification fee is payable to the Lifesaving
Society. Course organizers charge a fee to cover the costs of
running the course.
Recertification: Instructors remain current by
recertifying within 24 months of the last certification date.
Recertification is through the Society's professional development
credit
system.
