National Lifeguards are highly skilled and trained individuals. To become a lifeguard you must be 16 years of age and have Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid certifications. See the chart for the progression.

A National Lifeguard has taken a minimum of 100 hours of training. The National Lifeguard course itself is about 40-hours long and there are prerequisites (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid).
