The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and
registered charity working to prevent drowning and water-related
injury. The Society has been educating Canadians since the first
Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion was earned in 1896. The
Lifesaving Society Ontario is seeking a Training Program Manager to
increase participation in the Lifesaving Society's swim and
lifesaving and related leadership programs. The Training Program
Manager will maintain and enhance affiliate relationships for all
- Affiliates and
- Initiates, builds and maintains positive relationships with
affiliate and individual members.
- Initiates in-person interaction with affiliate members across
the province, but primarily in eastern Ontario via field visits,
area meetings, regional workshops and aquatic association
conferences to promote and support increased use of the Society's
swim, lifesaving and related leadership programs. At least 25% of
work time will be spent on the road.
- Provides high level technical expertise for the Society's swim
and lifesaving programs and responds to routine requests on all
- Develops and delivers staff training sessions for
- Prepares and executes presentations to educate individuals and
affiliates and promote use of Society's programs.
- Organizes, plans the agenda, and orchestrates affiliate
- Listens, sympathizes and negotiates to solve certification and
course problems; liaises with other staff members.
- Provides programming expertise and advice to affiliates.
- Promotes the use of Swim for Life, Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze
Star, Bronze Medallion and their related leadership programs to
- Proactively supports affiliate members to maintain customer
satisfaction and retention.
- Plans, manages and executes affiliate meetings for program
users, including regular Swim for Life affiliate meetings.
- Creates lesson plans, core plans and additional resources to
support the programs.
- Manages revisions for Swim for Life (with Alberta);
participates in revisions for Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Star and
- Manages the Swim for Life (including Canadian Swim Patrol)
program and Licencee agreements.
- Prepares responses to RFPs to increase the number of Swim for
- Identifies and confirms the needs of Swim for Life Licencees;
customizes program content and training; creates from scratch, and
customizes program reports, worksheets and other required forms;
coordinates with Communication Services to produce and
- Coordinates new Licencee staff training and trainers; conducts
Swim Update clinics.
- Manages contracts, contract renewals and Licencee
- Manages, trains and supports seasonal Swim for Life
- Responds to inquiries on the following programs
- Distinction (National Endorsed)
- Boat Rescue (National Endorsed)
- Lifesaving Fitness (National Endorsed)
- Junior Lifeguard Club (ON)
- Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers (BC, ON)
Activity Centre Council
- Liaises and coordinates with Swim Chair, Bronze Family Chair
and Proficiency Chair to develop new resources and execute
- Coordinates and attends Training Program Council and committee
meetings; participates in creation of annual objectives.
- Participates in program revisions.
- Recruits and recognizes volunteers.
- Manages approved projects within pre-set budget limits.

Ontario staff will contribute to the success of the organization by
providing courteous and prompt customer service, participate as an
enthusiastic member of various internal teams, and assume varying
degrees of responsibility for projects that may be assigned from
time to time.
Possession of the following knowledge, skills and
experience will enable the selected applicant to perform the major
job functions successfully.
- Excellent customer service, communication and people management
- Experienced and active teacher, specifically as a Swim IT,
Lifesaving IT, Bronze Examiner.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with Swim for Life,
Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Medal awards and their related
- Good general technical and program knowledge of all Society
- Strong administration and organizational skills.
- Intermediate level experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook,
Excel, PowerPoint; keyboarding skills.
- Expertise using Adobe Acrobat to create fillable forms.
- Knowledge of the Society's volunteer structure, affiliate
members and community-based programming.
- Aquatic programming experience is a definite asset.
- Good English grammar, writing, editing and form design
- Independent worker; self-motivated; team player.
- Consensus builder and good listener (ability to work with all
types of people and reach common priorities).
- Valid driver's licence and access to personal vehicle; willing
to travel throughout the province for extended periods.
- Willing and able to work weekends and evenings.
- Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference check.
